Before, during and after

Your first session

Nothing is decided in it. It is a way to find out whether this feels right to each of you.

  1. Step 1: You write or call

Tell us how to reach you safely, and when. You don't need to explain more than that.

  2. Step 2: A short fit call, if you want one

It is a 15-minute call about whether we are a good fit. It is not therapy, an evaluation or an assessment.

  3. Step 3: Your estimate arrives

If you pay without insurance, we send a good faith estimate in writing before the session.

  4. Step 4: The 80 minutes

We hear each of you describe the relationship in your own words, and we ask what you hope will be different. We agree on what we are working on and what stays private.

  5. Step 5: Afterward

You decide whether to book another session. If we aren't the right fit, we will say so and help you find someone who is.

About the first session

Do we need to prepare anything?

No. If it helps, think about what you would like to be different in a few months. You don't need to write it down or agree on it first.

What if one of us is nervous or doesn't want to come?

That is common and fine to say. Tell us in your message, and we will begin there.

Can we come by video?

Yes, if you are both in North Carolina at the time of the session. You can also come in person to the office on Franklin Street.

Ready to write?

Tell us how to reach you, and we will take it from there.
