Amira Barakat
Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor
Amira sees couples, and partners of people who are coming out or changing, in the office on Franklin Street and by video.
Amira is plain about what she sees, kind about how she says it, and clear about where her work ends. In sessions about a change, she makes room for both people: the one who is changing and the one who is finding out what it means for them.

How Amira works
Amira draws on attachment-based and systemic approaches. She names what she is doing, and she checks with each of you that it is useful.
She goes at the speed of the partner who needs more time. She doesn't treat anyone's identity as a symptom, and she says so when a question belongs to a medical professional or a lawyer.
Ways of working
The first session
She asks each of you to describe things in your own words. Nothing is decided in the first session.
Two people, both heard
She makes sure the person who is changing and the person who is adjusting both get time.
Pace
She goes at the pace of the slower of you and doesn't promise a number of sessions.
