Lemuel Mayfield
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Lemuel sees couples and groups of three or more, in the office on Franklin Street and by video.
Lemuel's work starts with a simple habit: ask each person what they most want the others to understand, then make sure it gets said and heard. He keeps the room slow enough for everyone to answer, and he says plainly when something isn't going to work.
Where the work starts
- Couples
- Three or more partners
- Opening and closing relationships
- Deciding and ending

How Lemuel works
Lemuel draws on systemic and attachment-based approaches. He tells you which one he is using and why, and he is glad when you ask him to change course.
He sees the relationship as the client, not any one person in it. When there are more than two of you, he asks how each pair is doing and how the whole group is, and he keeps track of who has not yet been heard.
Ways of working
The first session
He hears each of you, and then asks what you would like to be different. Nothing is decided in the first session.
Time alone
He agrees with you in advance how time with one person alone will be handled, so nothing becomes a secret.
Pace
He sets the pace with you and doesn't promise a number of sessions.
